May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Bringing Hope to the Sidewalk

Due to COVID-19, our regular site visits have had to change for the safety of our children, their families, and our volunteers. However, Sidewalk Hope is still fully operational and the Lord has provided multiple ways for us to continue our mission of making a positive impact in the lives of our children and their families through the hope of Jesus Christ. We have created new ways in which we can remain a positive presence in the lives of His children until we can once again return to the community with a full teaching service. Some of the ways we continue to minister during this time:

  1. Pen Pal Program – Volunteers have written to our children and enclosed self-addressed, stamped envelopes for the children to write back through our post office box.
  2. Mail – Postcards & letters have been sent to every apartment at all four sites to encourage the children and their families by letting them know we are praying for them and their needs.
  3. Socially Distanced Home Visits – We have been able to make home visits to some of our children living in individual housing while maintaining safety guidelines as recommended.
  4. HOPE Boxes – Hope Boxes were created for our children to let them know we have not forgotten them, God’s Hope is still very real even during this time, and that we would be back as soon as it was safe to do so. Each box contained a letter explaining the twelve items included that were meant to provide comfort, scripture-based activities, and incentives for play during our time away. We were able to deliver HOPE boxes to 400 children in six different housing developments!
  5. Food & Activity Drop-offs – All four of our site managers recently gave us permission to come back on site for food and activity drop offs for our children ~ some have even assisted us in getting the items distributed to the children! We are not able to open up the truck to conduct a full teaching program yet, but we are still sharing love and hope in whatever creative ways the Lord allows!

If you would like to minister with us as we continue sharing Christ’s love to the children and families of Sidewalk Hope, simply click on the “Contact” link, the “Donate” link, or call the number listed below!

Prayer Counselor

A Prayer Counselor will pray with the children who desire to learn more about Jesus or who have prayer requests. This volunteer would also be available to pray with families when requested.

Snack Helper

Feeding the children is an important part of what we do. We need people who can assist in serving a meal, and help prepare snack bags for the children to take home.

Activity Helper

We need lots of help to guide the children through the various activities we do each day which include sitting with the children during teaching, choosing prize winners, giving out incentives, and assisting with scripture memory.

Media Helper

If you are technically minded, we need you. Our truck is equipped with Audio and Video and we sometimes need extra help running the system. This volunteer will also assist with truck setup and breakdown.

Worship Assistant

We start each session praising God in worship. If you enjoy leading children in high energy and meaningful worship songs we would love to have you on our team! The children also enjoy live worship if that is your gift!

If God has gifted you with the ability to teach, we need volunteers who have a heart to share the gospel with our children in large or small groups.

Help make a difference in the lives of inner-city children.
